Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you are ready for our return to school on Monday. We look forward to seeing all the children again.

Please make a special effort to always be on time this term and remember children have long hair tied up all day, every day and that all shoes must have fastenings. No slip-ons!

Secondary News

Dear parents and carers,
Welcome back! I hope you have all had a safe and enjoyable Easter break with your families and are ready for the exciting term ahead!

This week we celebrate our value of  Responsible with a special focus on Earth week. Being responsible is a state of mind and a way we approach our decision making and how we approach others; it is a vital aspect of independence and self-sufficiency- characteristics I know we all want for our children. Please speak to your children at home about how we all put this value into practise everyday. A very simple but very important way to do this is by arriving to school on time! Punctuality is very important and it truly makes a difference in the settling in and a positive start to the day. Wearing the school uniform correctly and knowing which days to wear which uniform is also being responsible; by now, in term 3 we do not envision having students wear the wrong uniform and we ask for your support with this. Correct uniform also includes school jumpers and an appropriate length of the girls’ skirts. We appreciate our students have grown in height over the year, so please do make a point of checking appropriate fit and make any alterations needed. Being responsible also includes  catching up with work when absent from school for any reason. Finally please speak at home about “reduce, reuse and recycle”! We have recycling bins around the campus and we encourage everyone to make a special commitment to this. The IGCA will be holding a special assembly for students to raise awareness on this important issue and to share with them what the group have developed for school. Together, we need to help our students understand that leaving their eating areas clean after using them, for example, is their responsibility and not something they should expect someone else to do for them. Thank you in advance for your support with this.

This is the last week in normal lessons for G12 and G10 who have their final IB and IGCSE exam sessions starting very soon. We know they will prove to themselves how talented they are and we wish them the very best of luck! We ask parents to please check their child’s exam schedule carefully so they do not miss any exams and we remind you that students are only expected to come in for their exams and may leave after their last exam of the day. Having said that, if students wish to make use of the LRC, they are free to do so but we ask they respect the LRC rules and wear full school uniform when on campus.

We are looking forward to our school musical “The Sound of Music” at the end of this week, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Information has been published and we anxiously await opening night! Our students and staff have been tirelessly working to put on what I know will be another amazing production and we ask that you buy your tickets with plenty of time from the school offices. Let’s show them our support and come with family and friends to enjoy the show! Break a leg!

I would like to end by asking parents to look into a series which has taken the world by storm called “13 reasons why.”  It is a series based on the 2007 novel Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher and adapted for Netflix (also available on Youtube). It deals with very sensitive issues such as bullying and harassment, attitudes towards sex and relationships, the negative effects of gossiping, depression, alcohol and drug abuse and ultimately suicide. It is being talked about very much around the world with varying critiques and it is certainly being viewed by our teens of all ages here. It is an ideal opportunity for parents to find out about it and use it to establish these conversations with your children regarding these important issues. At school we will be looking into it with our pastoral team also. Here is an article which gives “7 things you need to know” for parents so you can get an idea.

Have a wonderful week!
Kind regards,
Natalia Cáceres Escalón
