From the Director
I would like to begin by thanking everyone who has supported Teleton over the last few weeks. The children have been given the opportunity to purchase t-shirts and other merchandise to support the national Teleton Appeal. Across the school we managed to raise $8,564 which was an increase on last years total. Thank you for all of your contributions. Well done ABC!
We have noticed less vehicles arriving early this week and I would like to thank those of you who adhered to my request last week.
It was a pleasure to welcome many parents to the Annual Meeting earlier this week where we presented news on the school’s plans for next year. We are very excited to be able to confirm our building projects for this coming summer holidays have been approved. We are going to be rebuilding our Secondary Mathematics and Science classrooms to provide up to date, flexible learning spaces and laboratories in line with promoting creativity and student engagement. We are also going to remodel our front entrance and Administrative building to make a more controlled and safer entrance area. In the sports area we are going to be installing lights to allow matches to take place after sunset and prolong training opportunities. We are also looking to appoint a Head of Sports to oversee and integrate the sports programme across the school.
This has been a very interesting term with many activities and successes. Our school continues to be a reflective community which places the highest priority on learning and all of us play a part in sustaining that focus within our community. You as parents are vital in the support you provide to your children and our school. We hope all of you have a reflective and happy time together this holiday, enjoying the triumphs and progress of your children.
As a final note can I remind you that We will Rock You is busy rehearsing for the shows in our first week back. We are all looking forward to the shows. Make sure you get your tickets!
Primary News
In primary, we have had a very busy week, with a host of events and celebrations as well as class trips.
We would like to say a big thank you to all our families who supported Teleton this year. The Primary School did a great job and it has been amazing to hear the children talk about the importance of the event. You can see some of our children at the national event last weekend.
This week PK Rampone went to visit a farm, as the children were interested in learning about farm animals and the class have been creating projects based on this subject. It was a very hands on experience for children. They were able to touch the animals, learn a little bit more about their behaviour and the products we get from some of them. They saw how to milk a cow and then the process of making cheese (cuajada) and cream. They had a wonderful day and are inspired to learn more!
On Saturday Lower Primary celebrated their Sports and Family Day. Thank you to the parents for adjusting to the last minute change of timings, it was much better finishing earlier in the day before the weather got hotter. Also this week we have participated in the celebration of International Down Syndrome Day taking place around the world. To raise awareness of the Paraiso Down foundation, students from the ABC Secondary section have sold t-shirts to raise money. In class, the children watched a video and discussed the great work the charity does.
It’s nearly Easter and the Lower Primary children have been on their annual Easter Egg Hunt! Kinder have been listening to clues left by the Easter Bunny to help them find more…
This week, we had our final Lower Primary swimming lessons and also Grade 1 to Grade 5 have been participating in their annual ABC Swimming Galas. With a combination of races, relays and fun activities, the children have worked together to score as many points as they can for their tribe. Even with the last minute change to have the events earlier in the morning, we had a great turn out from parents - thank you! The students were ready and raring to go. They enjoyed the chance to compete for their tribe and cheer for their friends. All of the staff were very impressed by the high standard of the children’s swimming skills and their confidence, congratulations to the ABC swimming coaches. At the end of the competition, medals were awarded to the students with the fastest times in their given stroke. The results for the winning tribes were as follows:
The Overall Winner for the Upper Primary Tribal Swimming Gala was PIPILES
(219 points).

This week the Primary Section have been creating Easter Baskets for our Superior staff to say thank you for all of their hard work. The staff work tirelessly to support us in maintaining a safe and inviting environment for the children. Thank-you very much if you have donated to these baskets.
Finally, we have had some cases of head lice in the primary school. Please help us by regularly checking your child’s hair and treating any outbreak immediately. Children should not come back into school until they are head lice free.

Secondary News
Dear parents and carers,
The end of our second term is here and it has been a whirlwind of activity and excitement and a lot of learning! It has been a time of giving at school and in Secondary you can see in the news below how many initiatives our students have been involved in, where the end result has been generous donations and making a difference in people’s lives. The Teletón, Paraíso Down support, the French activity and the class of 2022 collecting donations! We are very proud of our ROCs!
8th Grade Giving Back

During February the Class of 2022 collected food and toiletries to donate to Corazones Solidarios Foundation. Thank you very much to all the students for their donations.
On Saturday 17th, a group of girls and their mothers presented the donation to the foundation’s representatives on behalf of the Class of 2022.
During the morning, we went to Corazones Solidarios and the girls helped prepare the toiletry kits, and cook breakfast for the mothers who look after their children at the Benjamin Bloom hospital. We then travelled to the hospital to hand in the breakfasts, and spend time with the kids who are at the moment undergoing treatment in the BB hospital, and with their mothers- Once again, our students displayed each of our ABC values.

Donación de los alumnos de Francés
The students from 10th grade French organized an activity during the STEAM Fest. They have been doing this activity since they were in 8th grade, raising money making crepes and they donate the proceedings to the social service they are involved in, and this year they decided to donate food to the Hogar Infantil Adalberto Guirola, an orphanage in Santa Tecla.
The donation is the result of a group of 10th graders in French class who worked during the STEAM Fest. This donation was presented to the orphanage last Friday, 16th March. In the picture you can see the Director, Karen Liseth Melara, MD, who accompanied us.

Poets of Music

The Spanish department continues to promote the poetry contest ‘Los poetas de la música’ (Poets of Music). Very enthusiastically the students have been creating musical calligrams, odes to musical instruments, quintets about pentagrams, and some to the rhythm of inspiring music.
We hope this activity motivates them during the Easter holidays, to write poems to participate in the contests.

Opening of the LVII Student Games of La Libertad, where Guillermo Alcides Reyes Villalta from 6th grade was elected by the INDES to represent the Academia Británica Cuscatleca. Congratulations!
This Tuesday the Grade 9 IGCSE Drama class presented their second piece of coursework. Their performance was written and directed entirely by themselves and was inspired by Central American folklore.
The performance was hardhiting and thought provoking for actors and audience alike.
The grade 9 Drama students are proving themselves to be a very talented group!
