33: Friday 8th May 2015

From the Director

I would like to start this week by thanking all the parents who have been supporting our estudiantiles teams competing in the swimming and the athletics games this last week. Our swimmers did really well coming second overall. They were proud of their performances as we all were but I was also proud of the community feeling which our parents established at these events. It means so much when we behave in such a supportive and inclusive manner.

As you may know we have a new British Ambassador, Mr. Bernhard Garside who will be coming to our Graduation Ceremony in on 11th June. He and his wife Jennifer have already visited our school and Jennifer has asked for our help in making some British style cakes - sponges, scones, biscuits, fruitcake etc. I have volunteered 20 cakes on our behalf and I am hoping some of you will be kind enough to bake something to help us meet this target. If you have time and would be kind enough to help can you please contact Estefania. We would like the cakes in school on Friday 15th May and they will be sold for charity at the Gastronomique Festival on Saturday 16th May at the Gran Plaza CC Galerias from 10 - 3 pm

Tomorrow many of our musicians will be celebrating with friends from other European Union schools in a concert in Multiplaza which starts at 11am. Please come along and listen to them if you can.

Primary News

Dear Parents and Carers,

We had some great activities again this week. I was very impressed with the houses and homes made in Prepa and how well the students could talk to me about them in English. Excellent!

One or two of our classes have been affected by a virus that is circulating all schools in the area. We have monitored these classes and the variety of symptoms children are displaying as well as contacted a local paediatrician for advice. Our school has always had well established cleaning procedures but the virus is ‘out there’ on the street and children can pick it up in any situation; for example visiting a fast food restaurant or a play centre. The best thing we can do to prevent the spread of illness in school is to ask parents not to send their children into school when they are unwell. Keep your child at home until they have fully recovered. Our doctor is not here to diagnose specific illnesses but to identify when a child is unwell. Please take your child to your own doctor for a full investigation if you have a concern about their health first thing in the morning. Parents please accept it is your responsibility to ensure your child does not bring contagious diseases into school.

Tomorrow the European Union anniversary festival is taking place in the Multiplaza Shopping Centre. There will be a ‘flash mob’ dance beforehand at about 11.00 am. This will be a medley of three well known items.
  1. Radio Gaga (clapping)
  2. Macarena (most of our girls know this)
  3. Volare (some simple dance steps)
It will be followed by a musical performance by the British, French and German schools. We will be performing in the open area in front of Victoria’s Secret and Forever 21. Try and come along to support us and enjoy the event.

Staff Training
On Thursday 7th May the Secondary School pastoral team undertook some online training on student care, guidance and support.

We are in the process of reviewing a number of our key policies and this opportunity enabled the team to share ideas with educators in the UK on best practice.

On Friday 15th May there will be a Spring Music Recital in the Lecture Theatre at 2:30pm to 3:30pm. This is to celebrate the skills of students who have been attending instrumental lessons this year.
