28: Friday 29th March 2019

Words from the Director

This week we have enjoyed the multicultural arts festival which climaxed with amazing shows at the Teatro Presidente. We are celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the festival this year. It is a festival which has successfully promoted the arts and inspired a generation of children. A huge thank you to all ABC staff, parents and children who have contributed this year, as in previous years.

This morning we opened our fourth annual STEAMFEST with an opening speech by Mr. Mark Johnson from the US Embassy. We have record numbers of ABC students participating, discovering their passion for creativity, design and technology as well as record numbers of visiting participants from other schools. I want to thank Jenny Gracia, Silvia Serrano and their team for an amazing job preparing for STEAMFEST and ensuring its success.

In our digital world we have a number of dangers which our children are exposed to. As you will know we strongly recommend that parents set up internet protection at home which covers any device children may use. We are particularly concerned at the moment with the MOMO challenge that allegedly is appearing in some Youtube videos. Similar to different challenges online it is supposed to persuade children, through different challenges, to harm themselves or others. The MOMO challenge, started last year, targeted children and teenagers by contacting them through WhatsApp to accept different self-harming challenges

If you need more information please visit: https://smartsocial.com/momo-challenge-safety-guide/.

For information in Spanish, please visit: https://www.bbc.com/mundo/noticias-44952770

Please do take action if you hear your children talking about MOMO challenges.

I hope you all have a good weekend with your children.

Words from the Deputy Heads of Primary

This week Mr Bridge and Ms Edda Padilla are visiting the Latin Heads Conference in Mexico City this week. They have had the opportunity to visit schools, watch as well as deliver a presentation on the play based “child-centred” approach that the ABC Lower Primary section take. They will return next week to enthuse and give ideas on how we can develop our practice even further.

Reading
In primary we are continuing our focus on reading and are investing in new books to promote reading to Every week we will recommend a high-quality text for you to consider. Many of the books will be written by award winning authors, and research has shown that a great book has the power to transform children into engaged and motivated learners, thinkers, critics and authors.

Book Recommendation of the Week:
Where the Wild Things Are, By Maurice Sendak Bad-tempered Max, having been sent to bed, takes a voyage to the land where the wild things are and becomes their king. He eventually returns to find his supper is ‘still hot’.

*All classes will be using this story for Book Week (29th April-3rd May) if you have a copy (in Spanish or English) at home that you are happy to lend to us, please send it to your child’s teacher labelled with your child’s name.

Author Visit To School
Last Friday, Juan Pablo Moscoso Fernandez aged 9, a former ABC student (he now lives in Lima, Peru) and author of the comic book “The Adventures of the Guy with a Hat” came to school meet some of the Upper Primary children.

It was a wonderful opportunity for students to meet a real author, especially one the same age as them! Juan Pablo met with each of the classes in Grades 2 and 3 to speak about the book and the writing process. He also explained that half of the profits from the book will go to The Hat Life Foundation. The foundation develops and motivates creativity in children from vulnerable backgrounds all over the world. For further information you can visit Juan Pablo’s website - https://www.theguywithahat.com/

If you would like buy a copy of his comic book, “The Adventures of a Guy In a Hat”, they are available from the UP Office. Each copy costs $10.00 with $5 being donated to the Hat Life Foundation.

Ski Trip 2020
This week in Grades 3, 4 and 5 children had the opportunity to watch a short video about the ABC Ski-trip. The video, which has been created using footage from this year’s trip, has excited and enthused the children about the possibility of attending next year. If you are interested you can view the video on the following Link

Next year's trip to Lake Tahoe is in the planning stages, if you think that this could be a trip for your child then next week there is a parent information evening - Wednesday, April 3rd at 6pm in the Lecture Theatre.

Social Media - Reminder
Last week a letter was sent out from the school advising parents of the dangers and possible consequences of using social media at a young age. We would like to remind you about the school’s position on the student in the primary section using social media and having social media accounts.

“Should a Primary aged student be found with social media accounts including WhatsApp, when a problem comes to our attention that involves the safety or wellbeing of any of our children, the school will take action, we will discuss with parents and may consider not offering a place in the following year if access to social media is not controlled and becomes a safeguarding risk to others.”

Lower Primary Swimming Lessons
This week we started the Lower Primary swimming lesson demonstrations. The children have loved showing their parents how their swimming skills are developing.

Swimming is an important life skill that children and adults should learn as early as possible. Drowning is still one of the most common causes of accidental death in children, so being able to swim is an essential life-saving skill. There are many other health benefits:
  • Swimming increases the metabolism and helps energize your body and mind
  • It maintains your heart rate and takes away stress from the body.
  • It builds muscular strength and increases immunity.
  • Exercises your lungs and helps to keep you fit.
  • It is the only physical activity which involves and tones all of bodies muscles.

STEAMFEST
Today we had our amazing Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths Festival. The students presented the projects they have been working on in teams and had a chance to visit and learn from all the other projects. So many school values were on show today - Leader and Team Work, Resilience, Creativity, Curiosity, Enthusiasm and Reflection. Thank you to the Grade 12 Mentors that took groups of Lower Primary children around.

If You Love Me, Keep Me Safe
We know how much you love your children, we love them too. Which is why we want to continue with our campaign to promote the use of seatbelts. Children don’t like wearing seatbelts and it can be a fight that you just don’t have the time or energy for. However like everything else you have faced as a parent, consistency and routine will always triumph.

Getting them to wear a seatbelt is a battle you must have, when you consider that the consequences of not wearing a seatbelt in an accident can be fatal.

STEAMFEST
We close this week with another fabulous event for the ABC: Steamfest 2019! Thank you to our guest speaker, Mr Johnson from the American Embassy who came to offer an inspirational message to our community, reminding us of the importance of never stopping asking “Why?” and to reflect upon the fact that “necessity is the mother of all invention.” He challenges our students to think about how their curiosity and inventions can make the world a better place for everyone.

Thank you to the amazing LRC/ IT staff at the ABC! Ms Jennifer Garcia, Ms Silvia Serrano, Ms Judith Mendez, Mr Raúl Martinez, Ms Hilda Gomez, Ms Melissa Hernández, Mr Alfaro and Ms Hazel Jenkins. Truly our students are so lucky to have such passionate and caring teachers as guides in their life. Thank you for all your work and dedication!

Thank you to the enthusiastic ROCs we have in our student body who take every opportunity to shine and to engage wholeheartedly in these activities!

More on this wonderful event soon.

Words from the Head of Primary

Next week Edda (Grade 1 Leader) and I will be attending the LAHC (Latin American Heads Conference) in Mexico City. We have a full week of visiting schools, listening to various speakers and networking with teachers and leaders throughout Central and South America. I will be representing the ABC at the LAHC Annual meeting and Edda will be presenting a workshop on Play and the enhanced provision in KS1.

My focus will be finding out more about Personalised Learning (Differentiation), Learning Environments and Assessment for Learning. Edda is focused on IPC Learning and Environment; Assessment for Learning in KS1 and Learning Environments. It will be interesting to meet with other educators from Central and South America to discuss their successes and challenges.

Swimming Lessons in LP
Lower Primary will be having their Swimming Lessons from Monday 25th March through to Friday 5th April. All parents are invited to come and share the lessons and see their child’s progress. Please check you email for further information, dates and times.

Prekinder, Kinder and Prepa will be swimming in the LP swimming pool. 1st grade will go to the pool located in Secondary. Please use the Emergency Carpark.

3Way Conferences
The 3Way Conferences in Upper Primary will start on Monday 25th March. To make an appointment, you need to fill in the form you received by email or get in contact with your child’s teacher. It is important you attend these meeting because they give you the opportunity to be informed of your child’s progress in class.

Prepa Curriculum Mornings
Prepa parents are invited to a Curriculum Morning next week. The activities will be from 7.25-8.35am. You can arrive earlier and your child can share their learning environment with you. Once the activities begin there will be a selection of phonics, maths and Spanish activities, which you and your child will participate in. Learning activities will finish at 8.10 to allow you a 20 minute session with the class teacher to ask any questions and reflect upon the morning.

Please check the carefully the timetable you received by email to see which day of the week your child will be participating in the curriculum morning.

Chocolate
On Friday 15th of March, 2nd grade had their Chocolate exit point. We had many parents participating and having fun with their children.

Rain Forest
On Tuesday 19th of March, 2nd grade had the Entry Point of their new IPC unit ‘SAVING THE WORLD’S RAINFORESTS’. Rainforests once covered 14% of our world’s surface. Now they cover less than 5%. Every second, an area of the rainforest the size of a football field is being destroyed. Some scientists believe that, if we lose our rainforests, we might put our whole planet at risk. What will we do to help save the rainforest?

The decorations organized by the Madres Enlace are amazing and children had the opportunity to wear a home made costume of a rainforest animal.

Copa Giro
The ABC is very proud of the Girls’ Soccer Team who this Saturday won the Copa Giro. They put in their best effort, worked as a team and proved, once again, that effort leads to success. Well done girls.

Down Syndrome Day
This week we supported Down Syndrome Day, which is taking place around the world. To raise awareness of the Paraiso Down Foundation, students from the ABC Secondary section have sold t-shirts to raise money which children wore. March 21st is officially known as World Down Syndrome Day.

Words from the Head of Secondary

Dear parents and Carers,

CAL 2 reports- Grade 9 and Grade 11 published on iSAMS parent portal

University Fair
The Academia Britanica Cuscatleca, Colegio La Floresta y Lamatepec have joined efforts in order to participate as host country of the Central American College Tour. This is the biggest tour to come through El Salvador and includes almost 100 entities and universities from various countries.

Parents are welcome to join us on Wednesday March 27th from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. It will be held in the Auditorium of Academia Britanica.

Parking is limited so we strongly suggest attendees to carpool, if possible.

Please keep in mind that opportunities arise from where you least expect them and this fair is not limited to one particular country, so it is an event that would prove of great benefit given the diversity of the universities attending. Below you will find the invitation and the list of universities that have confirmed so far. The main objective of this fair is to encourage students to start thinking about their options during the summer months, as we all know the earlier they start the process the more successful the outcome will be.

I look forward to hearing from you and welcome you to our school and fair. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. We will be sending updates and reminders in the following days. mariavides@abc-net.edu.sv

À l'ABC, nous célébrons la francophonie!
A great big MERCI to our staff and students in the French department for putting on a fantastic day of celebration around the world Francophone day! We started off the day with a whole secondary school assembly and enjoyed our students singing, dancing and speaking in French. Madame Escobar also delighted us with a speech regarding francophone influence in our national history. At lunchtime we were able to enjoy delicious french dishes while Shaka and Dres performed for our students. C'était une merveilleuse journée!

I invite you to read Madame Escobar’s speech here

Message from the Spanish Department
From Ms María Haydee
As part of the promotion of the contest: “Virtual Poets 2019”, the Spanish department has dedicated the activity in memory of Diego Mina, a student who always participated very enthusiastically. And just like last term, we paid a visit to 5° grade in the Primary school. This very short visit helped to strengthen communication bonds between the Primary and Secondary school Spanish departments, and to promote and share with our future students, the joy of being able to express their lyrical skills, and enthusiasm in the school activities. We thank our fellow teachers, Beatriz García and Mayra Cáceres for all their support.

IB Art Exhibition- a huge success!
From Ms Chávez

Mobile phones- heads up on future ban on mobile devices in school
Finally, we have continued our consultation over a trial of “no phones seen” in Secondary school. This means that students will not be allowed to be on their mobile devices during break or lunch nor in the carpark. All staff have been consulted and we believe there is no detriment to the curriculum and learning experiences but on the contrary, it will allow students to be less distracted. In the playground and around campus it will also allow students to connect with each other and not with people over screens.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Kind regards,

Natalia Cáceres Escalón

Words from the Director

What an amazing week. We welcomed the triumphant Key Stage Three Maths team home on Monday celebrating their amazing performance in Mexico. We are so proud of their success.

On Tuesday the ABC hosted the final of the Boys Varsity Bilingual league. In a tough game our boys won the title in a 5-4 penalty shootout against Lamatapec in front of a large crowd underneath our lights. Congratulations to the team and coaching staff on a great season so far. The boys, along with the girls team are now participating in the College Cup.

We have a busy week next week starting on Monday with the Parent Convocatoria which will take place at 6 pm in the ABCLT because the PAC is being prepared for the IB Art Exhibition which opens on Wednesday. It is always one of the highlights of the year and will be open to visitors on Thursday and Friday next week. There is also an important IGCSE options meeting for Class of 2023 parents next Thursday. I look forward to seeing many of you at these events

Words from the Head of Primary

Bugsy Malone- I want to congratulate all of our students who have been involved in the production of Bugsy Malone. They have all been working hard to produce a fabulous production that showcases their talents, energy and creativity. I am delighted that a number of Primary children are also part of Bugsy Malone. I hope you can find time to go see it. There is a performance on tonight and on Saturday night, so please get your tickets quickly as they are selling fast.

Sun Danger- There has been much evidence given about the dangers of too much time in the Sun. We know that too much exposure to the Sun can cause skin cancer especially with young children. Often health issues in children appear in their teenage and adult years. We do get Vitamin D from the Sun, which does help fight colds and other illness. In school we are responding to the warning by ensuring they wear their Sunhat, drinking water, keeping in the shade, wearing sensible clothing (no heavy hoodie’s) and applying factor 30 Sun cream before coming to school. Also, it is important adults are good role models and follow these guidelines when families go to the beach, park or having a bbq in the backyard!

Pick Up After School- Thank you to those parents who are prompt at picking up their children at the end of the day. However a small number of children wait for up to two hours until someone picks them up. I realise that traffic and/or work can make it difficult to pick up students at a reasonable time.

So, have you thought of a plan ‘B?’ If you know you are going to be late, is their a family member (Grandma, Uncle, Cousin) or a a trusted friend who could pick up your child/children for you? Could you carpool with friends who also have children at ABC? Waiting up to two hours is not desirable, so please consider a Plan B!!

Words from the Head of Secondary

Dear parents and carers,

This week we have so many exciting things to celebrate! Firstly, we celebrate the wonderful performance of our Mathscounts Teams in Monterrey (as you can see in Mr Keslake’s message above) We are so proud of their effort seeing that it truly led to our success! Then on Tuesday we had a fantastic time watching our U18 Varsity football team lead the school to victory winning to Lamatepeque at the Bilingual league Final! Go Bulldogs! Thursday our very much awaited production of “Bugsy Malone” What a display of talent! I am very much looking forward to the Friday and Saturday shows! I encourage and ask for the whole community’s support to attend at least one of the productions as this is what a close supportive values based community does: Support each other!

In memory of Diego Mina
This week we received from Saint Jude’s hospital, where Diego was treated, a dedicated copy of “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry, as an addition to our LRC. Diego was an enthusiast of learning and this is a wonderfully symbolic presence of Diego at the ABC for years to come. Thank you Saint Jude’s!

Geography trip to Iceland
Written by Maria Jose Conde (Grade 11).
The geography trip to Iceland was an unforgettable experience. On this trip we got the chance to learn and extend our learning of various geography topics. We got the chance to experience different cultures, to visit new places and we had an amazing time doing so.

Due to the geographical landscape and nature within Iceland, we managed to discover waterfalls, coastlines, volcanoes, glaciers as well as local cultures and tourism management to support what we learn in Geography classes. Each time we visited a place, we related its background to a certain topic that we have previously studied either in IGCSE or currently at IB.

The students' favorite activities of the trip were visiting the Blue Lagoon, walk around the glaciers, observing the beauty of Iceland’s waterfalls and going Ice Skating. The fact that we got to see some natural creations such as the glaciers on the third largest ice cap on Earth was a unique experience. These glaciers may no longer exist in a distant future due to climate changes caused by the melting.

During the trip, we were able to experience the differences between Iceland's culture and El Salvador's culture including different food and language. We found that the Icelandic people really care about their environment, they are very enthusiastic about recycling and use almost no fossil fuels in their energy supply. All their hot water in this cold country is provided by Geothermal heating which we got to experience on our final day during our visit to the Blue Lagoon.

We are very thankful for the teachers who came with us, for taking care of us at every moment and for being such incredible teachers. We are also thankful for all the friends we made on the trip across the year groups. We were like one big family.

Overall we as students believe that it was a great trip, educational and incredibly fun. If you would like to read more about it please visit http://abcfieldtrips.blogspot.com/.

Class of 2023 - Empowerment camping trip to Portezuelo
From Mr Gale
After a morning of lessons and a beautiful journey through the El Salvador countryside, we arrived at Portezuelo near Juayua with 61 hungry students. Once there, we got to enjoy the first of our delicious meals at the site. The excited students then got a bit of time to relax where they unpacked and explored the campsite (including the ruin of a church where the boys would spend the night) and got the first of many chances to play on the swings and seesaws in the beautiful grounds. The afternoon then saw a few icebreaker games before the students were put into random groups to enjoy the many activates on offer. These were relay races (where students were dressing up as dinosaurs amongst other things), horse riding, kicking the bell (where if they succeed they will find true love in their life, I will let your child explain), giant volleyball and table football. The twist with table football was the students were the players! It was great to see the students and adults getting involved and having fun, especially the students who were not in their immediate friendship groups but instead had the chance to spend time with other members of the class of 2023.

After 2 hours it was time for more downtime before dinner. This downtime included an impromptu disco thanks to Mr Valladares’ music and the students ability to create fun and games was great to see. It was also nice to see the students having to socialise and not spend time on phones, something that made the trip better in my opinion. After we ate we had time for the evening entertainment. After a short discussion (if any students are reading this I was right about the rules of capture the flag by the way) we played my version followed by the students version of ‘capture the flag’ that I admit was more of a success. The game involved running around in the dark with the adults having to shine a light on them. I think it was fair to say the students did well using their imagination to find hiding places. By the time this had finished the night was drawing in, but we were lucky enough to have a bonfire where students roasted marshmallows and told each other scary stories in the dark. After a fantastic first day the students then got ready for bed and went straight to sleep…….. mas o menos.

After a cold and windy night (but not too windy thankfully) we all woke up, ate our breakfast and got ready for our hikes. The students had a choice of a short 45 minute hike or a longer 2 hour one. I was surprised and proud of how many students chose the longer one, and I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did. At the summit, we were greeted to blue skies and volcanoes but the thing I will take away from the hike was the determination and comradery of the students. Helping each other to get to the top in what was not an easy hike at all.

On our return to the camp, the now exhausted students got to play zorb football. This is where 10 students at a time got into blow up balls which rebound off each other without fear of getting hurt. The football itself got lost and the game became ‘run into each other’. It is hard to explain, but I can confirm it was as fun as it sounds.

After lunch and a quick prize of dressing up as a dinosaur, it was time for us to leave Portezuelo to return to the ABC. The students behaved brilliantly throughout the trip, followed instructions as I would expect and did the ABC proud. I would like to thank everyone who helped make the trip a success; the staff at Portezuelo, the staff members from the ABC, Miguel and John our parent volunteers and especially Marielos from the secondary office. Marielos put in hours of work to ensure the trip was the success it was and I would like to thank her on behalf of everyone. I hope the students enjoyed the activities, spending a night with friends and hopefully made some new ones that they did not have before.

Words from the Director

Congratulations to our Math relay team who are in Mexico this week competing in the next international round of Mathcounts. I am delighted to report that they won the Math relay competition amongst over 20 teams competing from around the Americas. All the participating teams have qualified from previous competitions so this really is an amazing achievement. The Mathcounts competition took place on Friday. We are looking forward to hearing of their progress as well as welcoming them home on Saturday.

We have been celebrating International Women’s Day in school this week. Our message is a simple one, based on encouraging everyone, regardless of gender to have ambitions, expectations and opportunities.

We are all looking forward to the production of Bugsy Malone next week. Please do buy your tickets. If you would like to purchase tickets, please visit the Secondary office, where they are currently on sale. In the poster below, you can see dates and special pricing for group sales.

ABC Sports, has had pretty active weeks competing at the Bilingual League and College Cup, in which our students are getting valuable experiences as members of a team representing our values, well done to all our athletes.

We are inviting ABC community to support the Football Varsity boys team who will play the Bilingual League FINAL against Col. Lamatepec on Tuesday 12th at 6:00 pm on ABC pitch.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Words from the Head of Primary

March 11- Please be aware that school is open on March 11. I understand some parents have an older printed version of the school calendar, which showed the school is closed. We are making up for the time the school was closed in Term One due to rain.

Sunhats- We insist that all our students wear the school sunhat when on the field or at PE. The uniform shop has run out of school sunhats, so children who do not have a school sunhat are asked to wear a suitable sunhat for the field and PE. We will inform parents when the uniform shop is restocked with sunhats, so parents can purchase them.

Guided Reading
Throughout this week in Primary we have been taking part in training with Rachel Clarke, a UK reading expert, working alongside Sue Dixon our English Coordinator. All staff have been thinking more deeply about how children learn to read, our teaching strategies and how we are all responsible for building the skills and love of reading with our children in school.

The parent workshops allowed Rachel to remind parents about how we can best support children reading at home and provided ideas for activities. This presentation was live streamed and is now available on the website, along with the parent leaflet.

This has been a very interesting week as we raise the profile of reading in school and move forward together.

A major aspect of reading is Guided Reading. What Is Guided Reading? Guided reading is an approach used by teachers to meet the various instructional needs of all students in the classroom. The goal of guided reading is not to teach a selected book, but to teach students reading strategies they can apply to all books.

For more information go to: www.primaryenglished.co.uk

Grade 5 Camp- On Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd February, the Grade 5 team as well as some willing staff and parent volunteers headed off into the El Salvador wilderness to the Portezuelo Campsite for their annual camping trip. The four busses and accompanying cars travelled in convoy up to camp arriving in time to put the children through their paces with Team Building games and activities.

Whether is was guiding themselves through a ‘minefield’, bouncing a huge ball over the net or even taking part in a human sized game of table-football, the children enjoyed all of the activities from the first moment.

The whole 2-day trip was a non-stop whirlwind adventure including putting up tents, a 6km hike as well as staff and children running around in the dark making animal noises trying to find each other. Thank-you to all involved in the organising of the trip, all of the children had a fantastic time and are looking forward to their next school wilderness adventure in Grade 6!

Praying Bears Campaign- We are pleased to share with you the results per tribe of the Praying Bears Campaign. Our Tribal Chiefs and Upper Primary students were in charge of sales record and supervision of the activity.

PIPILS - 123
AZTECS - 120
MAYAS - 101
INCAS - 101

On Friday, March 15th we will have ice-cream for all students who supported the campaign by purchasing a bear. PIPILS achieved the greatest number of bears purchased and therefore they will have a Jeans Day on that same date.

To prove a bear was purchased, ALL students must wear their bracelet.

Now these bears will be delivered to the children at Bloom Hospital, in the hope that it will make them feel better during their recovery. The money raised will then be donated to the local Children’s Epilepsy Foundation, Misionero Por Jesus (MPJ), for the purchase of medication.

School photos- The proofs for the school photos are already being delivered to the children. Please choose the package you wish to order and send it back to you child’s class teacher.

Paraiso Down t-shirt -Paraiso Down is a non-profit, apolitical, non religious, of social interest organization, established by a group of parents, aware of the needs and difficulties that a person with down syndrome has to face.

The purpose of the Foundation is the promotion of all activities that are aimed at the improvement of the quality of life of these people.

March 21st is a date recognized worldwide by the UN, as the international day of people with down syndrome, therefore, Paraiso Down has launched their solidarity campaign: “Leaving Footprints”.

You can now order your t-shirt with a $5.oo donation in the Primary Office. Children who support this campaign will be having a jeans day on Thursday 21st March.

Our 3rd grade students have been very busy reading, talking and learning about Dr Seuss. This is to commemorate Dr Seuss birthday, March 2nd.

My favorite Dr Seuss book is “How the Grinch stole Christmas”, because it tells me to be happy in a period of time that we are with our family.

Words from the Head of Secondary

Dear parents and carers,

Today is a wonderful day of celebration! Happy International Women’s Day! We are proud to be a school where equity and equality is promoted and celebrated and one which is very much aware of Human Rights and the UN MDGs (5 in this case!) of gender equality. It was great to see our students “thinking globally and acting locally” supporting our CAS Amnesty International group which has been working very hard over the last few months with a local Women’s Centre “Casa de La Mujer Tecleña” alongside the Santa Tecla town hall, and today we will come together to think about how we can each work toward the achievement of a balanced world (#BalanceForBetter)

IGCSE and IB EXAMS SCHEDULE- Class of 2019 and class of 2021

Dear parents and students,

Please find attached a copy of the exam timetable for May/June. Please check it carefully and ensure your child knows all of the exams they must be in School for. Please also read carefully the Exam regulations for your exam board so that you are familiar with the expectations and rules relating to the exams. A reminder that students only come into school for their exams and MUST be in School at least 30 minutes before their first exam and MUST NOT leave in between exams.

If you have any further questions, please let me know.

Mr Adrian Hall

CENTRAL AMERICAN COLLEGE TOUR AT THE ABC
The Academia Britanica Cuscatleca, Colegio La Floresta y Lamatepec have joined efforts in order to participate as host country of the Central American College Tour. It will be held in the Auditorium of Academia Britanica.

MONDAY 11th of MARCH - SCHOOL is OPEN
Please note the email below was sent out today. Apologies for any misunderstandings and I take this opportunity to ask parents to keep up to date with School communication via our School calendar on our website as well as reading this weekly as we announced these changes via this channel months back.

“We have been made aware that some parents believe the school is closed on Monday 11th March for staff training purposes. Although this was indicated on the school calendar at the start of the school year, this has now changed. The downloadable dates and "Whole School" google calendar have now been updated to show that the school is open and lessons are being completed as usual. If you would like a copy of the updated calendar you can download it from the school website.”

BUGSY MALONE

Tickets are $5 each or 4 tickets for $15 for the Friday 15th and Saturday 16th shows (both start at 6 pm).

There is also an afternoon performance on Thursday 14th (Pi Day!) which starts at 1 pm. This means that students will miss Period 6 (but will be expected to stay until the end of the performance - about 3:15). Tickets for this performance are only $3.

Tickets are available from the Secondary and Primary Offices or from members of the cast.

I sign off thanking all the parents who have supported the empowerment trips over this week. Our students have had a wonderful time bonding and working as a team, getting to know more friends and making memories. We will share their thoughts in next week’s weekly!

Kind regards,
