From the Director
I hope you’re all well. It’s been a long, and, if I’m honest, pretty challenging week. It seems like an age since I was congratulating the raffle winner and reminding us of Sidney Bechet’s advice to treat things gently.
We’ve been working hard to finalise arrangements for graduation this week. Graduate comes from the latin word graduando, or stepping up. Grade 12s have their group photograph on Tuesday and their Senior Exit next Friday which we’re really looking forward to.
At the same time, Ms. Chávez and Mrs. Taylor have been working really hard to try to ensure a really smooth transition process for our Grade 5s who are moving up into Secondary School, of course, next year. How exciting!
When I think of transition, I can’t help but be reminded of the famous quote by the Ancient Greek, Heraclitus. Sadly, it gets cut short sometimes and it’s a little sexist, I ask your pardon for that. But it goes along the lines of: “No man ever sets foot in the same river twice. It’s not the same river and it’s not the same man.”
Have a great weekend everybody.

Pre-Kinder Sensory Play
We are so happy that our hybrid ‘bubble’ provision allows us to provide the same world-class provision as we did before the pandemic. Research shows that sensory play builds nerve connections in the brain's pathways, which lead to the child's ability to complete more complex learning tasks. Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction.

From the Head of Secondary
Hybrid learning is a combination of face to face and online teaching into a cohesive experience. Both formats offer unique advantages which can be difficult if not impossible to replicate in the other, which is why combining the two into a single experience can create powerful learning opportunities, Online learning, offers to all children an independent exploration of different topics, innovative collaboration, information and technology literacy, and content mastery, by discussing videos, articles, encouraging a better dialogue with their peers. Face to face experience allows real time interaction and engagement that can be a bit difficult online. On the other had it also offers a deeper interaction with peers and teachers leading to a community experience.
We asked some of our students who have been on the campus for some weeks to give us their opinion on how they are feeling and this are some of the answers they gave us:
“I find it very cool to be back in school and to be able to communicate with my classmates.”
“I feel great! I feel that is better going since the teacher is with you! And seeing all of your classmates, and you feel more motivated”
“It's been good I've been able to socialise a bit so I'm good”
“It's been a good time because we met our new teachers and we saw our friends again”
“ I pay more attention in class when I am with my friends too”
“I am more productive in class”
“There is more concentration inside the class”
“I can interact with my friends”
“I feel great as I get out of my house more often”
“More motivated, in person learning is easier to understand”
“Awesome because I can learn with my friends”

From the PE department
PE classes have been a success with the approach of the 4 or 5 forms of exercises that we have used with the grades, because the students themselves have been very motivated and happy to receive their classes, and they even ask when we are going to have PE already in shape and some would like to have classes with balls, but the motivation and joy of being on the courts is very joyful and you can see in their faces that they needed to get into action. It has been a good start to PE class on the different courts.
From Mrs. Angélica Hernández
This past Wednesday, the 11th grade Visual Arts students from the IB Program held a virtual conversation with the French-Mexican artist Vivien Morer. The class was hosted by the Embassy of Mexico, where the artist explained each of his productions and the contexts from where his ideas originated, and how he applied the use of symbolism so that his images could capture his messages and reflections.
This experience allowed the students to have a clearer scheme of museum and curatorial management, which will come in handy when it is time for their own exhibition.
In special circumstances like the ones we are experiencing nowadays, we are committed to bringing museums to virtual classrooms.
We would like to give special thanks to the Mexican Embassy for their warmth, openness, and great support.
