37: Friday 14th June 2019

Words from the Director

We celebrated the graduation of the Class of 2019 on Thursday. Eighty seven young people going out into the world with an ABC community education to support them. I am confident they will show the world what it means to be a responsible outstanding citizen. Each of them will make a real difference in their communities as they enter the next phase of their lives. All of them have completed the IB Bilingual Diploma which is the most challenging programme offered by the IB Organisation and is widely accepted as the best possible preparation for university. We are confident they will continue to think independently, respecting their values and remembering that commitment leads to success. We wish them all the very best for their future and have enjoyed their company on their journey through school.

Throughout school we have been celebrating the efforts and successes of our students. Once again a crucial aspect of these events is the partnership between the whole ABC community and I want to thank so many of you for attending these events.

Needless to say we have a busy final week of school especially with Monday being a national holiday for Father’s Day. Please do ensure you check the calendar and are aware of the events as well as the closure schedule on Friday. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that next week is a very important week in school. Classes will be running as usual and attendance is vital. There are a few special events but if your son or daughter misses next week it will have an impact on their learning. Please do your best to maintain their attendance.

Please note our Summer Camp starts the week immediately after we close. I hope you have a good extended weekend and enjoy Fathers’ Day as family time.

Sports

We are looking forward to the Under 16 College Cup final which is now due to take place on Tuesday at 9 am in Estadio Magico Gonzalez. It was a pleasure to see so many parents On Monday celebrating the sporting and other competition successes this year. It truly has been an amazing year and we are looking at ways to build on this success next year. I want to thank Ceci Hernandez for an amazing job.

Words from the Head of Primary

This week we have celebrated the successes of our 2nd and 3rd Grade students. Parents were invited to hear the achievements that their children have made. We also recognised all children who have embraced the Values of the ABC. Mr Keslake and I were asked to speak on the Values of the ABC, noting that indeed all our children are ROCs! As a community we feel very proud of all our students. I hope all of the parents enjoyed the assemblies as well.

Book of the Week
The Wolf, the Duck & the Mouse by Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen

A mouse and a wolf have an inauspicious encounter in the woods and it’s not giving away the plot to reveal that the mouse gets gobbled up. However, once inside the wolf’s belly, the mouse soon discovers that he is not alone. Will the mouse and his new companion be able to escape? Do they want to? An unusual story with deep philosophical implications about what it means to feel safe and secure. It is told in carefully chosen language with a humorous dark edge.

Local Trips- Students in various grades have been on trips to celebrate the end of the year. They have represented the school well with good behaviour and full engagement with the learning opportunities. Well done students.

School Reports- The school reports will be sent out this afternoon. Please keep an eye for your child’s report. Kindly remember reports are not released if there are financial discrepancies.

Upper Primary Children’s Fun Day- Kombi Dar (children may wear their own clothes)- We are now coming to the end of a great school year. A Fun Day for Upper Primary has been organised for Thursday, June 20th. A letter was sent to parents recently. I hope you will support this great event.

Father’s Day- Please note that school is closed on Monday due to Father’s Day!

Words from the Head of Secondary

Dear parents and guardians,

We close this week having had the prom of 2019 Graduation ceremony which was a wonderful celebration of achievement for the community. We wish the class all the very best in their future endeavours and we know they will hold the ABC name high wherever they go.

We continue with our celebrations today and next week with the Awards Ceremonies for the different year groups. Please note that Tuesday we have Grade 6 and Grade 8 ceremonies and we will send out the invitation with the names of the award winners before then. We appreciate your patience and understanding as the time we have to review our data for some of the award is very tight so we are not able to send out the list with more notice.

Please take note that ALL students should complete their CLEARANCE process BEFORE Friday 21st of June. The school will be closed from Saturday 22nd of June to Monday 12th of August. Clearance must be complete in order to receive your child’s end of year report.

We will not be able to receive payment for lost books or accept return of texts in order to clear students during the summer holidays.

Song for Mr Keslake
Thank you to the French department and our students for creating a song as farewell for Mr Keslake. The whole community was able to enjoy it last week at Mr Keslake’s farewell assembly! https://youtu.be/zFuN_JDfbSg

Virtual poets
From María Haydeé de Díaz- KS3 coordinator:
The Spanish department (as part of the final activities for the 2019 Virtual Poets competition) organised an interpretative reading where the 7th grade winners addressed 5th grade students. These activities have helped build bonds across sections. The experience of this creative process brought so much joy! As well as showing their creativity and enthusiasm towards the activities, the competition winners were recognized during an achievement event earlier this week. Congratulations!

Thank you to Mrs Beatriz García and Mrs Mayra Cáceres for their support!

We hope you have a wonderful Father’s day on Monday and I look forward to seeing you at 7.00 am on Tuesday!

Kind regards,

Natalia Cáceres Escalón
